The Welz House

The historic Welz House is located in the heart of the university city of Würzburg. The building, whose history dates back to the 18th century, was originally built as a hospital. Today, after extensive renovations, the Welz House serves as an exclusive residence for renowned visiting scholars and their families from around the world. Located less than a five-minute walk from Würzburg's main train station, the Welz House offers elegant rooms and a private lecture hall. Its carefully selected guests benefit from the proximity to the university faculties while enjoying the central location within the city.


Discounts: Discounts are available for longer stays. These discounts are automatically calculated at checkout and deducted from the final price; no code is required! Prices are also reduced seasonally.

Important information & frequently asked questions

  • Check-in & Check-out Times

    You can check in from 4:00 PM onwards and should check out by 10:00 AM on the day of departure.

  • Information about the key card

    The key card for entry to the Welz House and your room will be placed in one of the key boxes located directly to the left of the main entrance. The code for the corresponding key box will be sent to you by email shortly before your arrival.

  • How does the pricing system work?

    Thanks to the new booking system, guests can quickly and easily book their preferred accommodation themselves. Prices are calculated based on the generally set daily rate and the length of stay. Guests benefit from the new pricing system, as discounts are offered for longer stays. Seasonal discounts are also available.

  • down payment

    Each guest must pay a deposit in advance, which is part of the total price and is non-refundable in case of cancellation. After you send us your booking request, we will send you a booking confirmation and a link via email to make the deposit payment. Please transfer the deposit using this link. If the stay takes place as planned, the deposit paid at the beginning will be deducted from the total price, leaving only the remaining balance due.

  • What parking options are available on site?

    There is no parking directly at the Welz House. However, there is a large parking lot nearby (a 20-minute walk) called "Talavera" where you can park for free.

  • cancellation

    Guests wishing to cancel their booking must send an email to the Welz House team (welzhouse@uni-wuerzburg-gmbh.de). In this case, the deposit will be retained.
