The Welz-House

The historic Welz-Haus is located in the heart of the university city Würzburg.The building, whose history dates back to the 18th century, was originally built as a hospital. Today, after extensive renovations, the Welz-Haus serves as an exclusive residence for renowned visiting scholars and their families from all over the world. Located less than a five-minute walk from Würzburg's main train station, the Welzhaus offers elegant rooms and a private lecture hall. Its carefully selected guests benefit from short distances to the university’s faculties while enjoying a central location in the city.

Discounts:  Longer stays are discounted. The discounts are calculated automatically at check-out and deducted from the final price accordingly; no code is required! Additionally, the prices are reduced seasonally: guests save 15% from January to March as well as in August, and 10% in April, September, November, and December.

  • Check-in and check-out time

    Check-in is from 04:00 PM, and check-out is by 10:00 AM. 

  • Key card to access the guest house

    The key card required to access the guest house and your room can be obtained from one of our key boxes. The code for the key box will be sent to you in advance by email.  

  • How is the price system working?

    Managing bookings via the corresponding portal is now much easier for guests.


    Prices are calculated based on the generally established daily rate and the length of stay. Guests benefit from the new pricing system, as discounts are offered for longer stays. In addition, seasonal discounts are also available. 

  • Deposit

    Each guest must pay a deposit in advance, which constitutes part of the total price and will be retained in the event of cancellation. An email will be sent regarding this matter.


    If the stay proceeds as planned, the deposit paid at the beginning will be deducted from the total price, leaving only the balance to be paid.

  • Is parking available at the properties?

    There is no direct parking available, but there is a parking lot called “Talavera” nearby, a 20-minute walk away, where you can park for free.

  • Cancellation

    Guests who wish to cancel their booking must send an email to the Welz-House team (welzhouse@uni-wuerzburg-gmbh.de). In this case, the deposit will be retained.
